Hooks for a Screen Time App

September 30, 2026 · 5 min read

Screen-time apps sound like a scolding parent. The hooks that work name a moment the person already dislikes.

See how Alma automates this

The short report on how Alma turns an app link into posts that go out every day.

Hooks

  • "The first unlock, before you meant to."
  • "You opened it to check the time. You know the rest."
  • "Put the charger in another room. The app is the backup, not the fix."
  • "One app gets the limit. Not your whole phone on day one."
  • "The password a friend holds until tomorrow."
  • "Bedtime mode that actually asks you, instead of a gray icon you ignore."
  • "What to block during the hours you said you were studying."
  • "Sunday night, when the week hasn't started and the feed has."

Don't lead with a number of hours

Huge screen-time totals are a genre of post, and they rarely point at your app. A single moment ("the unlock before coffee") is easier to recognize and easier to act on tonight.

Last slide

One action: set a limit on one app, or schedule the block for the hour they named. Show that screen. If your app needs a permission most people deny, explain why in one line, or they will bounce at the system prompt and blame you.
